How Boots can support people with asthma

Free Asthma Control Test

The Asthma Control Test (for over 18s only) is a quick and simple in-store assessment of your asthma condition over the previous four weeks. The pharmacist will subsequently offer personalised advice on improving asthma management. They can also help you understand your Asthma Action Plan if you have one.

Asthma inhaler technique

Our pharmacists will make sure you are making effective use of your inhaler by giving you a step-by-step guide and help you avoid common mistakes that can lead to poor inhaler technique.

How can I support myself?

  • Regular exercise could improve your lung capacity
  • Understand your asthma triggers and try to avoid them where possible
  • Smoking may make breathing difficult – we can help you kick the habit

How can I support a child with asthma?

  • It's only natural to be concerned if your child suffers from asthma, but you can take a number of steps to help them cope with the condition.

    • Educate your child by talking to them about asthma
    • Tell your child's school about their condition and give them an up-to-date Asthma Action Plan if they have one
    • Make sure your child knows where to get help at school
    • For young children, provide their nursery or school with a spare reliever inhaler (and spacing device if needed), labelled with their name (check nursery or school policy)
    • For older children who take responsibility for their own inhalers, ensure they carry their blue reliever inhaler with them while at school (check school policy)
    • Make sure any spacing devices are age appropriate
    • Your child should have an asthma check with a GP or nurse every six months
