COVID-19 Vaccination Service
Here's what you need to know
Information about booster vaccinations
The HSE recommend a booster or extra COVID-19 vaccination dose for those aged 12 years and over, in accordance with HSE recommended sequence.
A second booster vaccine is also now recommended for some people who are at higher risk from serious COVID-19 illness.
You should get a second booster if you are:
• Aged 65 years or older
• Aged 12 years or older with a weak immune system
Check here to see if you’re in a group currently being recommended by the HSE to get a booster COVID-19 vaccination and eligible for a vaccine through a pharmacy.*
If you're looking to book an appointment for a booster COVID-19 vaccination, please note that if you're not in the current HSE recommended group for a booster vaccine then your appointment will be cancelled. If you attend an appointment, we will always check eligibility at this stage. Ineligible patients will not be vaccinated.
How long should I wait before getting a booster COVID-19 vaccination?
After your first round of COVID-19 vaccination, you need to wait:
• Three months (at least 90 days) if you’re 16 years or older
• Six months (at least 179 days) if you’re aged 12 to 15 years
How long to wait before getting a second booster?
If you are in a group recommended to get a second booster you can get it four months (at least 120 days) after your first booster. You can check the date of your first booster on your digital COVID-19 certificate.
What if you had COVID-19?
If you had COVID-19 after your first round of vaccination, you should get your booster dose at least:
• Three months after symptoms started or from your positive test result if you’re 16 years or older
• Six months after symptoms started or from your positive test result if you’re aged 12 to 15 years
If you have had COVID-19 since your first booster and you are in a recommended group for a second booster, wait at least four months after you tested positive or from when your symptoms started.
