COVID-19 Vaccination Service

Here's what you need to know

Helping to protect you from COVID-19

Very limited COVID-19 vaccination booster appointments are available in selected stores for those currently recommended to get a first, second or third booster dose of COVID-19 vaccination, as per HSE guidance. This is once the recommended wait time or four months has passed since the primary or first round of COVID-19 vaccination or last booster.*

New adapted COVID-19 vaccines are now being offered as booster doses. These vaccines are expected to give you better protection against COVID-19, including the Omicron variant. These vaccines cannot be given as a first round or primary course vaccination.

Note: The Moderna Spikevax COVID-19 vaccine can only be administered to people aged 30 years and over and this is the only vaccine stock currently available in some Boots stores. If you're aged under 30 years, ensure you select the correct appointment booking link (e.g. appointment for people 12 years and older) or your appointment may be cancelled. If aged 30 years or over, you can select either the Moderna or Pfizer booking link for your age group.

For information on COVID-19 vaccinations in young children aged five to 11 years, visit the HSE website here.

More information about booster vaccinations

The HSE recommend a booster or extra COVID-19 vaccination dose for those aged 12 years and over, in accordance with HSE recommended sequence.

A second and third booster vaccine is also recommended for some people who are at higher risk of serious COVID-19 illness. You should get a second booster if you're:

•  Aged 65 years or older
• Aged 50 to 64 years
• Women who are pregnant from 16 weeks (if you've not already had a booster during this pregnancy)

• A healthcare worker  bring your work ID or a letter as proof of employment

•  Aged 12 years or older with a condition that puts you at high risk of serious illness from COVID-19 e.g. diabetes, asthma or heart disease

Check here to see if you’re in a group currently being recommended by the HSE to get a booster COVID-19 vaccination and eligible for a vaccine through a pharmacy.*

You should get a third booster if you’re:

• Aged 65 years and older

• Aged 12 years and older with a weak immune system

If you're looking to book an appointment for a booster COVID-19 vaccination, please note that if you're not in the current HSE recommended group for a booster vaccine then your appointment will be cancelled. If you attend an appointment, we'll always check eligibility at this stage. Ineligible patients will not be vaccinated.

How long should I wait before getting a booster COVID-19 vaccination?

After your first round of COVID-19 vaccination, or last booster vaccination, you need to wait at least four months.

What if you had COVID-19?

If you had COVID-19 after your first round of vaccination or last booster, you should get your recommended booster dose at least four months after symptoms started or from your positive test result.

STEP 2

Complete your online booking & pre-consultation form

Create or log into your Swiftqueue¥ account and answer some questions online to complete your appointment booking. This helps to reduce time spent in the pharmacy when you come for your vaccination. Have your PPSN to hand as you need this when completing your pre-consultation form

STEP 3

Go into store for your vaccination*

Don’t forget to bring a valid format of photo ID (such as a Driver's Licence, Passport or Public Services Card) and your PPSN with you. Wear a loose fitting top with sleeves that can be easily rolled up. We'll need to ask you to stay in-store or in the vicinity of the store for 15 minutes after your vaccination, just in case you have any immediate side effects
