READY FOR A NEW PERSPECTIVE ON BEAUTY?
MEET MONICA AKSAMIT
The Olympic Fencer wearing make-up for her, and her alone.
Olympian Monica Aksamit is at the top of her game. Following an impressive start to her fencing career – securing medals at Junior, Pan American and World Championships – Monica has gone on to represent Team USA at the 2016 Olympic Games, where she took home a Bronze Medal.
Monica loves wearing make-up – despite dedicating her life to a sport that covers her from head-to-toe in protective gear.
“Make-up is part of my armour. I like to walk out confident and when I’ve put on make-up I feel that bit more put together…. I feel ready.”
Whether competing at the world’s biggest athletic stage, or training other young women into the world of fencing, Monica thinks of make-up as an integral part of her routine that she knows is there, even if there’s a mask covering her face to the rest of the world:
“It empowers me. I’m not really putting it on for other people – I’m putting it on for me.”

Meet the award-winning stuntwoman, Amanda Foster
Amanda Foster has starred in over 250 feature films, television commercials and video productions. She has worked with a host of award winning directors such as Martin Scorsese and Danny Boyle in a number of roles as the stunt double for Beyonce, Whoopi Goldberg, Vivica Fox, Naomie Harris and Nia Long.
Amanda, 50, says of her stunt career:
“It’s never too late to stop learning and growing. I have been in the stunt business for over 20 years, but still feel like I am gaining fresh perspectives every day.”
It was her fierce determination that led her to become a stuntwoman after discovering that there were no female black stunt performers in the UK. As a single mum of three, she trained tirelessly for six years, fitting in work and training around raising her young family.
When asked about things that she has learnt as a stunt woman, Amanda says:
“I take pride in pushing myself to achieve the best possible results. I have always been very creative and fully believe that age doesn’t need to define us. As long as we believe in ourselves and have positive energy, we can overcome all the challenges that come our way. I like to feel totally in control, even in roles that are particularly demanding. Having the best possible skin for my age helps me to get ready for my roles – and in my profession, you have to be prepared for just about anything!”
About her partnership with No7, Amanda says:
“I am really proud to be working with No7 on their latest skincare campaign. It’s so important to me to have the best possible skin for my age and No7 helps me to achieve that. When I’m on set, my skin goes through a lot and I am constantly in and out of make-up – at the end of the day, I need to make sure my skin is properly taken care of.”

Meet award winning author and celebrated feminist speaker, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is well-known in the fields of feminism and politics. She’s written three critically-acclaimed novels and won countless awards. She’s also delivered numerous TED Talks and inspirational speeches, which have been shared in print and online around the world.
She is an all-round amazing and inspiring woman who also has a lot to say about beauty...
“Make-up has the added benefit of making me walk a little taller.”
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
When younger, she battled with the idea that she wouldn’t be taken seriously in a man’s world if she loved lipstick or eyeliner. As she grew, she realised she had no need to hide who she was. She is now a vocal advocate of how beauty is part of her feminine identity and how she uses make-up to show up how she wants to. She is passionate about colour cosmetics, and has spoken openly about her love of beauty and make-up.
“I believe women should be free to express themselves and their femininity. Wearing make-up, or not, has no bearing on who you are or what you have to say. But it can have a bearing on how you feel... It certainly affects how I feel. Make-up doesn’t diminish my voice, it enhances it. It helps me feel amazing, it helps me feel like the best version of me.”
