Yves Saint Laurent Forever Light Creator Serum 30ml
YSL Forever Light Creator Serum
I can sum up this review with one phrase: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
Background: With the glorious summer we have just had my spatter of freckles had started to darken a little. I had used CC and BB creams with SPF 30 but just across my face and on my lips a few freckles had started to go quite dark. The sales assistant noticed this when I went to try a lipstick at the YSL counter and told me all about this new product and all the patents it had. I was starting to feel a bit self conscious - especially the freckles on my lips (one looked like I had a small spots of chocolate by my mouth) so agreed to give it a try.
The Good: This product is definitely beautiful. The shiny white bottle looks elegant. The product itself is a gorgeous pearly white serum. It smells lightly floral. I used the dropper and followed the directions of 'apply one dose morning and/or night'. I thought I would start applying a drop morning and night. It really did brighten up my skin. It looked radiant. After about 2 weeks my pores were smaller and my freckles really looked less visible. It was very subtle but I could tell they were a bit lighter because under makeup they almost disappeared. Even the ones on my lips with starting to lighten.
The Bad: After about a week's use I noticed I had broken out a bit around my mouth and chin. I put this down to just my skin getting used to a new product. I'm a bit of a product junkie so didn't panic at the first sign of spots, besides they were only little bumps. Just as a precaution, after 2 weeks I reduced my use to just once a day to try and let my face recover a bit.
The Ugly: Unfortunately after 4 weeks of use the little bumps did not go away. Larger spots started to appear with ugly yellow heads. I got a particularly nasty one right by my lips. I decided to stop using the Light Creator for a week just to see how much difference it made (maybe I was just having a stressful month?) but the spots cleared away in a matter of days and all the little lumps and bumps disappeared. This product was the only part of my skincare regime I had changed that month. There wasn't anything else I could blame.
I am SO disappointed. Not just because of the wasted money, but because I could see the product was working! I have not reacted like this to product for so long it took me by surprise. It is probably likely that is it because the product is quite strong - I could definitely see results after just a few weeks. I would recommend requesting a sample first - especially if you have had sensitive skin in the past - or even if you haven't! As long as your skin can cope with the ingredients it really does deliver on it's promise of "correct the appearance of uneven skintone by acting on dark spots, uniformity, translucency, and radiance". Hence why I cannot just give it one star - it does do as promised, but sadly I cannot keep using it. Gutted, because it really is a beautiful product, but I'll take some freckles over huge pimples any day.

Beauty in a bottle
This is a Holy Grail serum for me. I have other serums, some of them are brilliant but this one just takes the cake. It cools, calms and preps my skin, moisturises it and just makes it feel great.
After about 2-3 weeks of use I also noticed it helped even out my skin tone, toning down any redness and making any discolouration fade. I don't really have dark spots so I can't say whether it would make them disappear. I also didn't get any allergic reactions to it.
The price point reflects the quality of this product but for me it's so worth it! I adore this under foundation, on its own, as a serum, as a moisturizer, just... love it.
