LeapFrog® LeapPad3 Learning Tablet (Pink)
I have a four-year-old daughter and she is always trying to grab her older brother and sister's iPods. I tried to let her play some learning games on my iPad and she wound up sitting on it and cracking the screen. After that experience I was thrilled to get the opportunity to test out the LeapPad3. Its a sturdy handheld tablet designed just for kids and its tough enough to put up with all they can throw at it. Right off the bat, I can tell you ours has been dropped, thrown and kicked more than once and its none the worse for wear. Even the stylus is fixed securely with a string to prevent it getting lost. But lets move on to some of the other features.
The LeapPad3 comes complete with one game already installed and thousands of apps and cartridges you can purchase for an additional content. The game that comes with the LeapPad is a virtual pet game called PetPadParty. You can choose between cats, dogs, bears, penguins, robots and more. You can give them names and set them up in a virtual world. You can choose its name, colors, and care for it. Its definitely a cute game and my daughter is an animal lover so she really enjoyed it.
In addition to the game that is already installed, you can also go online to the store to find hundreds of other game options. You get one game for free with your initial purchase. My daughter picked out Escape of the Sillies. When they get away they bring happiness to our world. This game teaches counting skills and is perfect for preschool age. I also allows you to add your own pictures to the faces of the Sillies. This free games feature generic characters, but you can also pick from many of your favorite personalities including Cars, Team Umi Zoomi, Magic School Bus, Dora, Sponge Bob, and tons more. They have a great selection, but given the price of the device, it would have been nice to have one or two more games included at no additional cost, even if it was a few more generic ones. I would also like to see as least one book or coloring pages included in the initial package.
In addition to all the fun games, there is still way more this system has to offer. There is a built in Wi-Fi system you can connect to the internet to download right onto the tablet. There is a camera, you can film videos, listen to music, and pretty much everything you'd find on a adult tablet, just made simple to use so kids can handle it independently. The touch screen is receptive and the battery is rechargeable which is a really big plus.
The LeapPad3 is perfect for home and travel. You can take with you in the car, to the doctor's office, or just about anywhere. The best part is that while your kids are having fun they are also learning. Every single game from LeapPad is educational. There is no violence, no mindless activity--just reading and counting and challenging kids' cognitive abilities. It challenges them again and again and can continue to do so well into their grade school years because the games and books automatically adjust to your child's level of learning. Whether you are trying to teach a preschooler basic letters and numbers or encourage an older child to improve their reading skills, you are bound to find something for everyone with the LeapPad3.

A Leg Up On Learning With The LeapFrog LeapPad3
I knew the new LeapPad3 would be the perfect educational tool to give my toddler nephew a jump start on learning. Upon receiving his very own LeapPad3, both he and I were so very impressed with all of the outstanding features this high-tech device offers!
Fast and easy set up: Getting the LeapPad3 turned on and set up takes a few easy to follow steps. Parents simply power on the device and follow the on-screen prompts to connect to their Wi-Fi, create an account, and answer a few basic questions. With the included AC adapter and USB cable, the LeapPad3 can easily be charged at home or on the go and does not require pesky standard batteries like many childrenâs devices.
Kid-tough and kid-safe: The new LeapPad3 features a shatterproof 5â touchscreen that is highly responsive and perfect for a childâs touch. In addition, it has been drop tested and has proved durable for those sure to happen accidents. With internet safety in mind, children cannot freely browse the web or make app purchases without parents entering their preset four digit security code.
Personalized learning: Upon set up, the LeapPad3 records the age and grade level of the child using the device. From there, the games automatically adapt to the individual childâs learning level in subjects such as math, reading, and writing. Parents can sign up to receive learning tips and progress updates to see how their childâs skills are developing.
Tons of included features: With many electronic devices, additional purchases are necessary to even get started. I was impressed to find that the LeapPad3 came with ten songs, five utility apps, two fun pet games, a photo editor, and one choice of a free app download. In addition to the included apps, the LeapPad3 has two cameras that also record video. To store childrenâs apps, photos, and more the LeapPad3 is equipped with 4GB of memory.
Educational Apps, Games, and more: The LeapPad3âs App Center contains over 1,000 educational games, eBooks, videos, and music all available for purchase with parent approval. On top of these available apps, the LeapPad3 also has the ability to play traditional LeapFrog game cartridges. When children are interested in finding new material other than their exciting apps and games, the LeapPad3 offers LeapSearch (when connected to Wi-Fi) powered by Zui, which provides children with age-appropriate videos, images, and more from the web, all approved by top learning experts.
After learning about all of these outstanding features and spending some time on the brand new LeapFrog LeapPad3, I am amazed. Since my nephew already knows many basic concepts and is proficient at navigating his mommy's tablet, he was a natural at playing on his LeapPad3. However, it will take some teaching for him to become proficient at using the stylus properly since he is still a bit young. Fortunately, he has my three older children that are more than willing to help him learn and play with his new device! I cannot wait to watch my nephew enjoy countless hours learning on his new LeapPad3 at home and on the go. As a compact and kid friendly tablet with an endless selection of educational activities, the LeapPad3 is a great investment in any childâs academic success.

Great Tablet for Kids
This is a great first tablet for kids. What I really love about it, aside from the learning features, is that my boys can search for videos according to topics and all the videos are safe for their viewing, unlike the ones they find if they search on my tablet or laptop. It's great for travel. Also, I can make an account for each of my three kids, which they love because now they don't get upset about another messing up something in a game they're playing.
I was sent a LeapPad3 for review, but all opinions are my own.
