Ouch! I have very dry skin on my hands almost all the time - it is eczema-like and the skin on the back of my hands is rough, and red. I thought giving Flexitol hand balm a go would be a good idea, because I thought the urea may be able to provide overnight results, helping to improve the appearance and feel of my hands. The skin on my hands often gets so dry as to split and bleed. Obviously I did not use this on any noticeable cuts, but I think there must have been miniature cuts and abrasions on my hands when I used this, as when I applied it my hands felt like they were on fire! They also went bright red. I tried to ignore the stinging for a few minutes, thinking it might settle down, but it didn't. I washed it off and they felt much better; after this, I applied a soothing cream that doesn't contain urea or perfumes. The Flexitol hand balm is quite thick in texture and I think it's best used overnight; it would be annoyingly greasy during the day. It also has a strong floral smell which is a bit headachey and cloying; it may be to cover up the smell of the active ingredients, I suppose. I do think it's good that there is a product like this on the market, containing urea, which is why I'm giving it three stars. I do feel it could help people with dry skin. Just heed the instructions and don't apply it to broken skin - even if cuts, etc are not obvious. I think perhaps it is not helpful for sensitive skin. I'd recommend trying a fragrance-free emollient-type cream in that case. May 18, 2012
Fast relief for cracked dry hands I was recommended this by a member of the pharmacy staff a Boots and can't recommend this balm highly enough. Every winter my hands get so dry and sore that they crack and split at the fingertips, taking several days to heal. I was spending a fortune on hydrocortisone, plasters and hand cream! I even soaked my hands in olive oil in a desperate attempt to get some relief. I can only say I wished I had known about this hand balm sooner, I noticed a difference and relief with the first application but you need to use it a few times a day for best benefit, then weekly for maintainence. It does feel slightly greasy going on but within 5 minutes its all absorbed, and if you're hands are that dry I don't think anyone would really care. I cant say i noticed any smell to it at all either. It's all about relief - and this does an excellent job! December 27, 2012
Great Hand Cream This product works really well on dry skin. It is a bit expensive so don't use all the time. January 13, 2013
