Small Change, Big Difference: Get out of that hair rut!

Found: your new look hair style. Ditch the old 'do and get ready for the new you!

“Every now and then, you feel flat and ready for a change”, says session and celebrity stylist for Neville’s hair salon, Stephen Low. The good news? Now’s the perfect time to reinvent your hairstyle. Try these simple style tweaks and get out of that hair rut. Now!

Reinvent your style

Inject some life into your hair and you may start loving your style again. “If you always wear your hair straight, try styling it into loose curls,” says Stephen. Or if you have fine, flat hair, add some oomph. “Invest in a lightweight volumising mousse, part your (towel-dried) hair into small sections, spray a little into the palm of your hand and distribute evenly at the roots. After your hair has dried completely, tousle with your fingertips,” says Stephen.

Must-buy: John Frieda Frizz Ease Curl Reviver Mousse .

Upgrade your tools

Never underestimate the power of a hairdryer upgrade. “A good blow dry can only be executed with a powerful top of the range hairdryer,” says Stephen.  “It never hurts to shop for a new hairdryer every five years or so. Technology is always changing and different nozzles allow you to achieve looks with varying degrees of pouf.”

Must-buy: We like Nicky Clarke NHD120 Frizz Control Hair Dryer , which uses shine-boosting ionic technology to help create a sleek, frizz-free style.

Boost your colour

Dull, nondescript hair colour? Give your hair a boost with a home hair colourant. It’s the insider’s secret to glossy, vibrant tones – but the biggest news? You don’t have to go for a dramatic shade change to benefit; “Even choosing a hair colour that closely matches your current shade will give hair a boost,” says Nice ‘n Easy Creative Director Sean Tetlow. “It’s all about depth and shine.”

Must-buys: Nice N Easy Perfect 10 range for speedy, glossy colour . .

Make a good impression

A major life change is the perfect time for a hair upgrade. “If you are starting a new job a shorter, more even-toned style will do your professional image a world of good; adding bangs or layers can also shape up your locks,” says Stephen. “Ask your stylist for a cut that complements your hair’s texture. Remember, the shorter the hair, the quicker and easier it is to style.” Styling fiends, keep your hair looking immaculate for longer with a heat protection spray.

Must-buy: Aussie Dual Personality Heat Protection .

Think layers

Love your length but think your hair looks a bit… mediocre? “Pop into the salon and have some layers sliced around the front to freshen up the shape and frame your face,” suggests Stephen. This will bring your cut up to date whilst taking off any damaged split ends.”

Must-buy: To keep that fresh-from-the-salon definition to your layers, try spraying a small amount of Lee Stafford messed up spray wax (available in store) on your roots after you blow-dry..
